Methodology

Woodmoulding.Com - Laramie, WY USA

"A disciplined approach is critical to successfully creating the right business solution on time, in scope, and within budget. The success of most technology projects depends on project management, business objectives, and development processes as much as writing quality code. It is not sufficient to merely decide what technologies to use; true business success is achieved by maximizing the effectiveness of the technologies selected."

Current State
The first order of operations with respect to the implementation of the Woodmoulding MIS is an adequately precise definition of the current state of the information system at the user site.  Every plant, even the one where the only computer is on the bookkeepers desk has an information system.  A review of the information system is both wise and necessary in order that the Woodmoulding MIS will improve the data flow and not miss data that are pertinent to the managers of the plant.  Additionally, a review of the current state is necessary to determine hardware requirements going forward.

Business Objectives
Given the set of finite resources available, a review of business objectives is the next order of operations.  This review, involving all interested parties, will allow the user and Woodmoulding.Com to
identify, organize and prioritize the business objectives of the implementation and thereby optimize the use of resources and minimize the "Time to Value" of the system.

Hardware Specification
In context of the conclusions from the first two steps, the user and Woodmoulding.Com will develop a hardware specification.  A successful hardware specification is a necessity as it will provide the infrastructure for the entire system.  Care must be taken to schedule the implementation of the hardware component to insure that needed equipment is available in a timely fashion while also work to insure that hardware sits idle waiting for its day.

Phase Definition
Based on the results of the above operations and the availability of resources at Woodmoulding.Com, the user and Woodmoulding.Com define a phased implementation of the Woodmoulding MIS.  Woodmoulding.Com does not offer a shrink wrap product, all modules are custom developed.  When mission critical applications are common among Woodmoulding MIS users, implementation can occur more quickly.
